Sector watch – Healthcare

Healthcare continues to be the strongest segment of the U.S. job market, adding 15,000 jobs in June which brings total job growth in the industry for the past 12 months to 348,000. While healthcare remains strong, it is important to point out that 15,000 job increases is a drop from recent months when the industry averaged around 30,000 new jobs. While this is not yet cause for major concern, it will be important to watch what happens next month to see if this is the beginning of a downward trend. Unemployment for the industry remains consistent from a year ago at 3.4%, well below the national average. This indicates that almost 97% of those in the industry are employed – an impressively high level.
