Sector watch – Healthcare
Healthcare was one of the few bright spots in this month’s jobs report, adding 13,500 positions in March alone. The unemployment rate for healthcare and education remains well below the national average at 4.1%. As the funds from the stimulus package are allocated, the Department of Health & Human Services has reported that many jobs will be created for healthcare providers and in health information technology. As the new Secretary of Health and Human Services, former Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius takes on her new role more will be learned on the exact path of the funding and the administration’s overall health agenda for the next four years. At the announcement of Gov. Sebelius’ appointment, President Obama announced a portion of the funding will go towards creating health centers for uninsured Americans across the country which are expected to create 5,500 jobs.
