News & the workplace

White House issues tax breaks for green manufacturing.
President Obama recently announced $2.3 billion in tax credits for clean energy manufacturing as a way to stimulate job growth.

Impact on the workforce

The Obama administration believes that the tax credits will lead to an additional $5 billion of private capital investment in the clean energy manufacturing sector, with the credits worth up to 30% of the project cost. It’s estimated that the tax credits will lead to the creation of 17,000 jobs.

Impact on employers

Employers in clean manufacturing technology will be directly impacted by the new credit. Ideal projects for the credit include the manufacture of wind, solar and geothermal energy equipment as well as fuel cells, electric cars, and carbon capture and sequestration technology. This will allow employers to hire additional workers for the ongoing projects.

Impact on employers

While numbers may not be soaring yet, employers are starting to see an increase in demand for workers. It may make hiring managers nervous to bring on permanent employees in a bumpy recovery, which makes temporary or contract employment a great option for companies with an increased need for workers, allowing the workplace to modify based on needs.

Many experts suggest that individuals learn new skills and employers offer opportunities for training. Is there a benefit to this?

 Impact on the workforce

With the American worker learning new skills and furthering education, it creates a workforce of more specialized employees that will help move the United States forward in a variety of evolving or new job sectors.

Impact on employers

By offering employees training sessions or classes, an employer can build internal skill sets, and increase the technical flexibility of their organization while encouraging employees to explore areas of professional interest.
